Height distribution of molecular ions concentration in the F-region of the polar ionosphere accounting currents and dynamic processes
Abstract. In the paper along with field-aligned currents in momentum equation for charged particles, interaction ions with neutral particles has been taken into account, motion of which make a considerable contribution to ion distribution at the heights under study. Numerical estimations of this effect at vertical distribution of molecular ions have been obtained in the E-region of the polar ionosphere. It has been shown that inclusion of the neutral gas motion in the momentum equation can both enhance effects of the field-aligned currents, and completely cancel them out.
