Abstract. The paper analyses the current state of shipbuilding. The following questions have been considered: main trends of national shipbuilding policy and long-dated terms, problems of domestic shipbuilding and shiprepairing, engine building, experience of foreign engine building firms and companies. Some ways of solution of the current situation for the purpose of sustainable development of the country have been offered.
