Diamond placer's potential of the Kola region
Abstract. The Quarternary sediments of the continental interior and offshore part of the Kola Peninsula have been studied to reveal the diamond placer's potential of the region. The set of geophysical, lithological, mineralogical, petrographical and geochemical methods has been used. The diamonds and kimberlitic indicator minerals have been found in the alluvial and marine sediments. It has been substantiated that the region is highly promising on occurrence of diamond placers. The new diamondiferous kimberlitic fields on the Tersky Coast, Pulonga and Snezhnitza have been found out.
