The mortality levels of two common copepods in the Barents Sea
Abstract. In the Barents Sea, instantaneous mortality levels have been calculated for the first time in the common Arctic zooplankters Calanus finmarchicus (Gunner, 1765) and Calanus glacialis Jaschnov, 1955. In summer 2006, the first species reach their maximum abundance in the south; there its mortality varied from 0,005 to 0,133 day–1. The second species was present in the northern and eastern parts. The mortality rates ranged from 0,001 to 0,540 day–1. Possible factors caused mortality of these copepods in the Barents Sea have been discussed.
