New Problems of Fundamental and Applied Geological Science of the Kola Region
Abstract. The paper presents research material substantiating a new concept of a long-term (3.1-1.6 Ga) pulsation development of the Kola Precambrian collision structure. Updated prognostication and metallogenic inferences are offered on the main types of the region mineral deposits: PGEs, diamonds, oil and gas, construction and decorative stone, and deposits hosted by alkaline intrusions. Geoeconomic and geopolitical aspects of the development of the Murmansk region are considered. An emphasis is made on the potential of the geological education programme which was successfully started and has been carried out on the Kola Peninsula on the basis of the Murmansk State Technical University and Petrozavodsk University.
