Using GIS for assessment of sensitivity of the Kola Bay shoreline to oil spill
Abstract. The paper describes the approach to gathering information to determine the environmental sensitivity index (ESI) of the Kola Bay coastline to oil spill. The results of practical implementation of the proposed approach have been represented. The mechanism of processing and systematization of information (photos) and its further integration into GIS have been also described. Basing on the received results the most sensitive, in terms of potential oil spills, plots of shoreline have been revealed. This work may provide substantial assistance in preparation maps of priority protection areas for oil spill response plans, as well as directly in oil spill response operations and during oil spill cleanup operations.
