Egg production rates of the common planktonic copepod Calanus finmarchicus in the coastal Barents Sea
Abstract. Egg production rates of Calanus finmarchicus, a key zooplankton species of the Barents Sea, have been presented for the Murmansk coastal water mass for the first time. Egg production varied from 16,6В±1,6 (at 5 ?РЎ) to 29,2В±2,5 (at 10 ?РЎ) egg per female per day. Specific egg production is estimated to be 5,0В±0,5 % carbon mass of a female per day. A positive relationship between egg production rate and prosome length of female has been found.
